Church House welcomes increase of the Living Wage

Accredited Living Wage employer, Church House Westminster welcomes the increase in the UK and London rates recently announced by the Living Wage Foundation.

Church House are continuing their commitment of payment to the London Living Wage (Real Living Wage) after initially receiving their formal accreditation three years ago. As part of Living Wage Week (November 5-11th 2017) the Mayor of London announced the new UK rate of £10.20, seeing an increase of 4.6% from the previous £9.75 per hour.

All contracted staff at the Westminster venue will receive the increased rate, including their porters, catering, cleaning and temporary staff. Elane who works as the Cloakroom Attendant on a regular basis through the agency, Off to Work, says that receiving the London Living Wage has had a positive impact on her finances. She comments: “Working for an agency means that my jobs and wage can vary week on week. Receiving the London Living Wage at Church House makes me feel that my hard work is valued, and I look forward to continuing to receive the benefit of the increased payment which I am not offered from all venues.”

Katherine Chapman, Director of the Living Wage Foundation comments: “Year-on-year, we see organisations and businesses across the UK embracing the London Living Wage as they recognise that a fair day’s pay is not only the right thing but can improve the quality of staff’s work, reduce absenteeism and increase motivation and retention.”

General Manager, Robin Parker comments: “Having been a London Living Wage employer for the last three years, we are delighted to see the latest increase in payment. This will not only help our employees with the cost of living but also help us to attract a quality workforce and continue to offer an award-winning service.”
