3 questions for Ian, AV Manager

As Church House keeps broadening its technical services we caught up with Ian, our AV Manager. Ian talks about the evolution of AV at Church House and shares his thoughts on the future of technology for the event industry.

Hi Ian, so you have been AV Manager at Church House for over 5 years now, what major changes have you witnessed over the years?

Since I started working at Church House we have undergone a number of changes in the AV department. Some of the main ones include increasing our team of in-house AV professionals which has improved the flexibility and knowledge in the services we can offer. With regards to equipment, we have updated all of our facilities in our smaller rooms to ensure that we can service each room more efficiently by incorporating  LED / plasma screens. Also, our larger halls have also have also been undergoing upgrades to the technology, which is on-going.  Generally, I think it is really important for us to ensure that we keep up-to-date with current technology so we can provide our clients with state-of-the-art-facilities.

What do you think are the main challenges faced by AV teams working within the event industry?

Most clients are not specialist in AV requirements and thus do not always know what AV is necessary to meet their vision. A challenge we face is ensuring that we guide and advise on the most suitable solution that meets their needs without over or under delivering. With the constant advances in technology we have to ensure that we keep up to date with what’s new and making sure the team are fully trained on the latest equipment.

Any prediction on the future of technology for the event industry?

When relating to the services we provide, I see the future of technology helping events to become less formal but still delivering the message. They will be more interactive and dynamic which will be aided by the wider adoption of wireless devices and smart phone apps. While some of this technology is already available, it will be enhanced to deliver multiple services simultaneously. Projection technology is currently evolving in terms of the delivery of 4k resolution with laser projectors. 8k projection is already on the horizon and 16k not far behind that.  However will our eyes be able to see the difference at these higher resolutions?

The whole aspect of presenting to an audience will become more fluid using software apps  to encourage delegate participation and interaction. There will be new methods of delivering the conference message through the increased use of projection, lighting and sound technologies which will emphasize the subconscious absorption of this message.
