Focusing on Fairtrade at Church House Westminster

With October being Fairtrade month, we as the in-house catering company, Ampersand (part of CH&Co Group) are promoting our commitment and raising awareness of Fairtrade products to help improve the future of disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries.

Fair Trade is a social movement seeking to make a difference to the lives of the producers that grow the things we love, most notably being coffee, cocoa, wine and fresh fruit. The movement promotes greater equity in international trading partnerships through better prices, improved working conditions and a fair wage for farmers and workers in developing countries.

Our overall list of Fairtrade products is vast; however we place a particular emphasis on our freshly ground Fairtrade filtered coffee, which was one of the very first items to ever carry the Fairtrade mark. By serving to our clients to kick start their morning conference or energise their refreshment breaks, we can be confident that we are helping farmers build a better quality of life for their families and communities. Not only that but allowing them to invest in growing better quality beans, making an overall improved taste!

As coffee isn’t for everyone, we offer a Fairtrade tea selection by carefully chosen supplier, Twinings. Personally, I am in love with Lady Grey – the unique flavour and delicate taste of the zest with subtle hints of orange make a perfect cup of tea to keep you going.

With catering being a crucial part of every event, we know how important it is to keep up with current trends, particularly Fairtrade products being a priority for clients striving to achieve more sustainable events. With that in mind, we carefully choose our suppliers and purchase several products and ingredients that have been certified as Fairtrade from sugar and chocolate to honey and fresh fruit- which can be used to create a tailored organic juice.

Fairtrade and ethical sourcing will remain a main focus at Church House Westminster as we continue to place seasonality and sustainability at the heart of our menus. Offer your support by keeping an eye out and purchasing products with the certified Fairtrade label.
