Black History Month honours the history of Black communities and recognises the great achievements made by Black thought leaders who have shaped life as we know it. It was first proposed in 1915, 50 years after the Thirteenth Amendment abolished US slavery.

As part of Black History Month, we are continuing to review our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Policy and how it translates into action in the workplace. We aspire to attract employees who are as diverse as the wider community. To support this aspiration, we have just rolled out our comprehensive equity, diversity and inclusion survey for all employees and our trustee’s annual survey will be out before Christmas to allow us to track the impact of our policies and decisions.

According to a study by Josh Bersin’s Research inclusive workplaces are 1.7 times more likely to be innovation leaders.

In 2022, the theme is ‘Black Health and Wellness’, recognising the achievements of Black health and wellness practitioners.

This year’s Black History events calendar is packed with inspiring activities for those celebrating in London.

And this weekend brings a good opportunity to join one from the comfort of your home. Black History Month UK Movie Watch Party Long Weekender – a free admission movie watch party with three classic Black British movies hosted by IBHM Heritage International online.
