Tearing down the House

Tearing Down The House Party. .. Hmmmm! But that's what the Invitation said. So on 2nd February we made our way to Church House Conference Centre to see exactly what kind of party this was.

Burning Down the House In keeping with the theme.

We were greeted at the door by The Conference Centre's staff members appropriately dressed in construction attire (jeans and t-shirts) and hard hats and invited to go to Bishop Partridge Hall. Was this where we were to receive our appropriate clothing and perhaps a sledgehammer or two? Not at all! Instead we were offered Long Island Iced Tea or wine and a selection of canapes.

The occasion for this event was to celebrate the beginning of Church House's £1.2 million renovation, thus the construction theme with a specially designed menu and entertainment.

A highlight of the evening was a performance, in The Assembly Hall, by Cirque Bijou, a group of performers presenting their Melt Show, which is a combination of acrobatics, martial arts, electric pop and dance with fire. This was quite amazing!

Then it was time to move into the lovely Hoare Memorial Hall for appetizing taste treats that included fish & chips. hamburgers and vegetable curry . . . very substantial cuisine even though we really hadn't helped to 'tear down the house'.

The Assembly Hall, Church House's biggest room, will be completely altered to make it more flexible and comfortable as well as suitable for a bigger variety of events. The room's tiered seating will be removed and replaced with a levelled floor. As well as theatre style conferences and meetings, the room will be suitable for cabaret style events, gala dinners and banquets, making it one of the largest, completely round dining venues in London. There is no doubt that when the refurbishment of Church House is completed in early 2007, The Assembly Hall will be a lovely addition to London's conference and banqueting scene,
